I have been a vocal critic of the corrupt practices of some cab drivers in Las Vegas. Now there is a lawsuit that alleges that the practice of "long hauling" tourists was a part of company policy/directives at Desert Cab. Here are some of my past posts on this subject:

On December 8, 2011 a civil lawsuit was filed in Nevada Federal District Court by a former Desert Cab Inc. driver alleging violations of by Desert and others for wire fraud, Racketeering / corrupt organizations (RICO), Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and wrongful discharge. Individuals sued include its owners, George Balaban, Dana Balaban and Brad Balaban, its General Manager, Sandy Shaver, its senior supervisor, Marc Cramer and its supervisor David Kocher.

The complaint alleged violations illegal or wrongful misconduct by the company for requiring long-hauling, cash deposits by its drivers in exchange for the right to work (running the meter with no customers present) and forcing its drivers to drive negligently maintained vehicles. Alleged retaliation by Desert includes bad shifts, cancelled shifts, poorly maintained taxicabs, and ultimately termination for drivers who do not not make average book.

The terminated driver filing the lawsuit demands general and special damages, punitive damages and treble damages under RICO.

@Neon is at it again... Another hissy fit about my blog. Really? Guess what? Call me names, throw a tantrum, make demands, etc. BFD... It's my blog and I control the shots.

In order to get @Neon to calm down and hopefully shut his piehole, here is the latest rant from @Neon:

"I don’t mind that Mr. “Hoofa” doesn’t post my comments because he won’t publish any comments that are critical of his blog—period. I am not frustrated about this because I already know he won’t post my comments—I just want him to read them. If you feel inclined, I urge you to ask him to publish the comments I’ve left on his blog, because there’s some valid questions he needs to answer.

His most recent posts states:

His statement is pure asinine horseshit.

A sense of humor is not berating Asian dealers and their speech, nor is it berating the gay lifestyle, tourists, certain football fans (and the cars they drive) and old people who are on oxygen. And really (REALLY?) these very same people are the ones that keep him (a supposedly bad-tipping professional gambler) in business. Until his latest post, he’s never stated that his writing “is not meant to be taken all that seriously.”

Mr. Hoofa needs to step-back and re-read his posts. His own anonymity (how many of you actually know him?) proves he knows he’s a bigot, borderline racist, and all-around douche.

And yes Jimmy, I’m more than happy to “waste 5 minutes” writing about your blog. I just may waste a whole day—depending on your future posts."

He's apparently frustrated that I won't publish his anonymous comments. This rant is quite a piece of work detailing various complaints and criticisms of my blog posts. Congratulations to the Cosmo for being overrun with gay men on Sat. nights. Since @Neon takes offense to my use of the term "fagelas" I will no longer use that term on my blog. Instead I will use politically correct term of "men who practice alternative lifestyles."

What is interesting is that Paris markets itself to the GLBT community as a "gay friendly" hotel. To have the upstart Cosmo be more desired by this demographic must certainly be of concern to Gary Loveman and his henchman. This incident happened at the Mirage about a month ago. For past few weeks I have been thinking about how best to describe what I witnessed, so bear with me...

First of all, I have a camera with me 99% of the time with me when I go out anywhere. Either my point and shoot or my DSLR. So, the one time I forget my camera I see what might be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen since I have moved to Las Vegas. I will do my best to describe what happened...

I get to the Mirage on a Friday night at around 6:30pm to play in their 7pm poker tournament. I go buy in and since I have a few minutes to burn I stand by the roulette wheel in front of the cashiers cage and check out the scenery. As usual, this part of the casino is very crowded with people gambling and people walking back and forth. I am near the entrance to the Beatles Love show entrance. For 7pm in Vegas the area is jam packed...

At this point I see this guy walking towards me about 75 yards away. First of all let me describe this individual. He looks like he's on the USA Olympic swim team. He's about 25, 6-3, and completely ripped with a swimmer's body.... He so ripped that jaws are dropping on many women (many women with dudes, btw) So how do I know what this guy looked like? Because this guy is walking through the Mirage wearing nothing but wearing those European "boy shorts" that gay guys like to prance around in. That's all he's wearing... He's barefoot to top it off.

But wait, there's more to the story... This young man is incredibly drunk. He cannot walk even close to straight. He's staggering, he's bumping into people, and he's just totally wasted. Of course he has a beer in his hand -- a nice 24oz can of something, Bud Light I think.

Now the for the best part: He's soaking wet, like he just stepped out the pool or hot tub. So let's review what we are dealing with: A dude completely drunk, about 25, ripped like a swimmer, wearing gay boy shorts, barefoot, soaking wet, totally wasted and walking through an upscale casino.

It gets better... Two Mirage security guards see him and do nothing at all. They just sit there laughing there asses off. This dude proceeds to stagger through the casino until I can't see him anymore. During this entire time not one Mirage security guard or manager could be bothered to approach him and find out what the hell is going on.

I know it's Vegas and crazy shit happens all the time. But this one takes the prize as the most ridiculous thing I have seen since I have lived here.

Check out this mess at the Mirage. It looks like someone just dumped out their ice cooler on the way out of the hotel. This mess was located at the top of the 4th floor escalator that leads to the access bridge to the parking garage. It just seems like way too much ice for a spilled drink.

And this place is supposed to be some high end rug joint? Really? Once again, tip of the cap to MGM Resorts for running the joint like it's Circus Circus.

How far the mighty have fallen....

Check out this kid skateboarding through The Mirage. This is the corridor with all the fancy stores on the way to the pool. My video clip shows only a small portion of this kid's activity. He skateboarded up and down the corridor for at least 5 minutes while I was there, including losing control of his board and almost hitting a patron. Not once did I see security or anyone from the Mirage tell this kid to stop. The Mirage was his own personal skate park.

To think the once mighty and proud Mirage has now sunk to this level -- that a kid can skateboard through the joint without as much as even a warning. Really? Steve Wynn would be mortified...

Living in Las Vegas you seem of the strangest things. Example: A "Hustler" strip club right across the street from a "Playground Warehouse." Not sure what business was here first, but it does seem quite ridiculous to have two such businesses this close to another...

I can only imagine the comments that must be made when a family rolls up to the Playground Warehouse to purchase a set up for the backyard! Of course maybe just the dads go take care of the purchase themselves. "It's OK honey, you and the kids don't need to come, I know exactly what to get for the backyard."

Las Vegas Abandoned Construction Site #11

“Canyon Edge” is one of the more unusual abandoned construction sites I have come across since moving to the Las Vegas area. Location is about a quarter of mile north of the intersection of Horizon Ridge Pkwy. and Green Valley Ranch Pkwy. in Henderson. This is a collection of “single family” homes of about half which were completed. The rest of home sites have never been built on.

I would imagine that these homes were selling for well over $1 million dollars before the crash, now the the entire project sits empty with not one residence occupied. I will give some credit to the bank that owns this property – they have the place surrounded by a chain link fence and there is 24 hour security protecting the place. I know this because I got chased away from the property one afternoon while trying to get some close in photos.

These residences are modern looking and appear to be of high end construction. I just don’t see how they are ever going to get sold, even at a huge discount. Who wants to buy a home like this in a neighborhood that is half finished? I have a feeling these places are going to sit empty for many years.

Here we ago again with urban blight in Las Vegas. This location is on Tropicana about 2 miles east of the Strip. What I don't understand is why after a building is demolished, the sign of the former business is allowed to remain standing? In this case the sign is a target for vandals and taggers -- thereby causing further blight in the area.

Really? "The Hop" is closed? No shit. Ridiculous. FYI -- this land is now being used by car washers and street vendors to ply their various trades. Nice.

Congratulations to the Flamingo for being selected as the the Las Vegas hotel with the most hookers trolling around. 47% of those who voted selected the Flamingo. Wynn came in at 22%. I would argue that on most nights there are more hookers in the Flamingo then actual customers. Bugsy's should be renamed The Ho Bar.

First of the all, the Flamingo is falling apart and is completely disgusting. Caesar's Entertainment is perfectly content to run the place into ground, then they allow hookers to operate inside the place with complete impunity.

It would be funny to see how fast Gary Loveman would be accosted if he sat down at Bugsy's for a beer. Of course I doubt if Gary Loveman has ever set foot inside the Flamingo..

Traffic Jam: I-15 West leaving Vegas...

I drove back from Calif. on Mon. 6/27 and saw one of the worst traffic jams exiting out of Las Vegas I have ever seen. To my knowledge there were no accidents -- just thousands of cars all trying to leave LV at the same time. These photos were taken around 2pm.

This traffic jam stretched from Primm to a few miles before St. Rose Pkwy. -- a distance of approx. 30 miles. That's right -- thousands of cars in complete gridlock, idling and in stop and go traffic in a 106f heat. Apparently most of these vehicles were occupied by attendees at the "Electric Daisy Carnival" held over the past weekend.

To make the matters worse, that stupid CA "agricultural checkpoint" had a min. 5 mile back up when I drove past it in Yermo. Combine this back up with the traffic jam leaving LV, and I would add 2-3 hours extra travel time -- not to mention traffic upon entering southern CA. Every time I see traffic like this, or I am stuck in traffic like this leaving LV, I ask myself why? Why can't CA and Nevada, and the Federal Govt fix this clusterfuck and have some sort of a legitimate highway to move all these people in and out of southern Nevada to southern CA?

I just about fell off my chair when I got this offer from Aria. $79 a night for week night rooms, plus 2-1 for that Elvis Cirque show. Are you kidding me? Talk about lowering standards, talk about being desperate to fill rooms... Aria is a very nice and upscale hotel/casino. I thought they were trying to give Wynn/Encore some competition? For MGM Resorts to hit his price point for Aria is shocking.

If Aria is going for $79 Sun-Thurs, then what should Excalibur be priced at? $15.99? What about the disgusting IP? $9.99? With this pricing the Flamingo should be free I guess....

This disaster area is located by Bermuda Rd. and W. Cactus Ave. – About a mile north of St. Rose Pkwy. It appears to be an apt. or condo complex. Of all the abandoned construction sites, this one might take the prize for being the most vandalized. The photos really do not do it justice. This place looks like something out of a war zone with all the broken windows. This complex is a complete eyesore in what is a pretty nice neighborhood.

Wide open gate beckons any bum or teenage vandal into the complex. Nice security… No wonder the place has so many broken windows.

I would assume that the majority of these lung tanks are needed because of years of smoking... I believe that these two are together on a date at their local casino -- and both of them have O2 tanks! Las Vegas is just a never ending stream of photo opportunities. Here are some photos I have taken over the past few months. Enjoy.

This was at Planet Hollywood the other night. I was sitting waiting for some friends to arrive and I got these pictures. Yes that dude has a freaking cat on his shoulder. Why? I have no clue.

Then about 10 minutes later this crew of gnomes cruises through the hotel. I have no idea what the hell this was all about, but it was pretty funny to see this.

Nothing like checking into your hotel with a rolling suitcase and a case of beer.

Slumming it at the Mirage. Every time I go the Mirage I see people lying on the floor with all their luggage. My, how far the mighty have fallen. If only Steve Wynn could see whatta dump this once proud hotel has become….

I have yet to figure out why someone would wear such a hat out in public, especially when it was not cold. Note full test tube drink – just purchased at the TI.

Viva Las Vegas 2011

I attended the VLV car show and concert on Saturday, April 22, 2011 at the Orleans Hotel. If you have never attended the VLV, it is my opinion one of the best public events that comes to Las Vegas. It is a great time, the drinks are cheap, the cars are amazing, the women are pretty hot looking, and best of all it’s all retro 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, and early 60’s.

To start with, here’s a sampling of the vintage vehicles at VLV 2011:

The “Raider Nation” was of course represented. Gotta love this homey in the zoot suit – Raider colors of course… “Orale holmes.”

Here are some of the “vintage” looking women at this event. The hair, make up and accessories are quite a feast for the eyes…

For whatever reason there was a substantial contingent of dudes (and a few women) with Mohawks…

I don’t know how women can strut around in heels on the blacktop for hours upon hours, but it is quite the spectacle of footwear at this event…

The tattoos on display at this event by both men and women were amazing…

This event lends itself to substantial amount of “self promotion.” Enjoy the photos…

Sorry about the image quality, but guess who is sitting at the table inside the Mirage hustling autographs? Yes, you are correct, that's Pete Rose. Charlie Hustle seems to make his way around to quite a few casinos in LV pitching his autograph for a few bucks. Now I have no problem with the guy trying to support himself, but this looks ridiculous. These Elvis impersonators are all over the LV Strip. To date I have not seen one that can pull it off. The reality is that Elvis in the 70's was a bloated whale. However, if these clowns can make a buck, and stupid tourists want to pay for a picture, fine.

However, I draw the line with this jackass. First of all he gets mad because I take his pic during a cig break. Then he stares me down. What, no pics without a toke? Guess what? You are on public property and anyone can take your pic without paying one dime, and you get to be on JH's blog!

Not sure if this place is an ass pit, a tit pit, or a shit pit. When I arrived it was an ass pit -- grouchy, sour dealers. When I left, the pit had gone all female and had they had donned slightly more revealing outfits so it bordered on a tit pit. Games were typical ploppy shoes and CSM's -- not DD, which of course defaults it to a shit pit. This one is a tough call. JH says shit pit, but borderline to an ass pit.

Results: It was close between Imperial Palace and Circus Circus. However, Circus Circus has been nominated by JH readers as the most filthy and disgusting hotel on the LV Strip. Tip of the cap to MGM Resorts Intl. (the same folks who brought you City Center) for operating such a fine property.

Honorable Mention: The Flamingo. The DF -- Dirty Flamingo maybe the most disgusting LV Strip hotel of them all. CC and IP are dumps, we all know that. I challenge anyone to walk around the Flamingo and check out how disgusting this place has become. Chinese New Year 2011 -- Year of the Rabbit

Of all the ethnic groups and minorities that Las Vegas caters to, nothing is more obvious or blatant than the nonsense that goes on with casino marketing for Chinese New Year (CNY). I understand that casinos must market themselves to all demographics – but CNY just takes the prize for casino boot licking to one specific ethnic group.

Obviously CNY is a huge cultural celebration for these Chinese and other Asians. Part of that celebration for some Chinese involves coming to Las Vegas and gambling. Casinos roll out the red carpet to welcome Chinese visitors to their resorts.

Las Vegas casinos may act like it’s all about celebrating Chinese culture and history, but reality is that the Chinese gamble and many of them gamble big. Every casino executive in this city knows that CNY has the potential to be a huge win for the house.

Now imagine a group of a casino executives are meeting 6 months in advance to discuss and plan for CNY. At the start of the meeting the corporate “Diversity Compliance Officer” presents each executive with a list of Chinese gambling superstitions. The “DCO” stresses to each executive the importance of being familiar and aware of Chinese traditions and superstitions in regard to gaming. Now imagine the chuckling and laughing that probably would be going on as this list is assessed. CNY is a casino operators dream. Here you have a demographic that is for the most part upper middle class to wealthy, has high levels of education, loves to gamble, yet they tend to follow some of the most ridiculous superstitions when it comes to gambling.

So let’s examine some of the gambling superstitions that are so important in the Chinese culture. (These were found by a simple Internet search using Google)

1. The color red is considered lucky – Casinos do have a lot of red in them, now I know why!

2. Wear red underwear when gambling – Come on now, can I get a thong check on this one?

3. Females are luckier when gambling during their period – Whoa! Not even going there.

4. Do not enter a casino through its main entrance: Use a side entrance only to enter a casino – This sounds like it would get old after a while to use a side entrance over and over. What happens when valet parking?

5. Males and females should avoid sex before gambling – This one I need some help on. Is sex forbotten during the entire trip or just before a gambling session? Is there a waiting period after having sex before hitting the tables? Ex: Mr. Woo and gf have sex early the morning in their comped suite at Encore -- When would it be safe for Mr. Woo to play baccarat?

6. Do not gamble after you’ve just seen a monk or nun – I don’t think this will be a problem in LV.

7. White female table games dealers over the age of 50 are considered to be unlucky – I don’t know about this one, but if anything they are usually are grouchy and enjoy to see players go on losing streaks,

8. Do not gamble after you’ve just touched someone else’s shoulder while they’re gambling – I really have no opinion on this one.

9. Switch on all the lights in your home / hotel room before going out to gamble – Come on now. Talk about wasting energy.

10. Being an early winner is considered bad in that you will eventually be a big loser by the end of the game – This has to be one of the stupidest ones of all. Money is money, does not matter when you win it -- just win it and keep it!

11. The numbers 4 and 14 are considered unlucky – No opinion. They are just numbers.

12. Urinating during a game can help change a losing streak into a winning one – I just have to laugh on this one. I bet the restrooms at the Wynn and Encore were just filled with Chinese men the past few weeks.

13. Smoking two cigarettes at once before entering a casino is thought to bring good luck – I never heard of this one before. Seems ridiculous and possibly a health risk.

14. The numbers 8, 13, and 18 are considered lucky – No opinion, They are just numbers.

15. It is believed that every gambling table has a baby ghost associated with it and that feeding it with sugar will help your luck – Come on now, this is getting ridiculous. A “baby ghost?”

16. When playing baccarat, shout out “Ding” or “Deng” before a new shoe is dealt – this will make the cards more favorable – Interesting, I will have to listen for this one.

17. The color black is considered unlucky or a sign of misfortune – No opinion.

21. It is believed that having a few grams of sea salt inside your wallet attracts wealth luck – Seems rather harmless.

22. Never wear a ring on the thumb as this strongly signifies loss of wealth and an evaporation of success – Never heard of this one, interesting.

23. Wearing a jade ring on the little finger is said to bring you wealth. For males, wear on the left hand, and for females, wear on the right hand – Interesting, will have to check this one out.

24. If you are winning some big money during a gambling session, the belief is that you should make sure you do NOT get up to wash your hands – Now, what if you have to use the restroom? You don’t wash your hands when done? Yuck.

25. Sitting on a handkerchief is considered good luck – I have never seen this one in action, sounds absurd.

26. Picking up cards with your left hand is considered bad luck – So only the index finger on the right hand only? Come on now…

27. No cutting hair or fingernails the first few days of CNY. Washing hair on the first day of CNY is also not a good idea – no opinion.

28. Avoid wearing white (which relates to death) during gambling sessions – Never knew about this one.

29. Never play blackjack if a white male is seated at 3^rd base – This one I had never heard about. When things start getting “racial” you have to wonder what is really going on.

30. Do not count any of the money gained or lost during a gambling session – Common sense says know when to stop and hit the eject button.

These casino cage robbers really have some balls. In the case of this low life he robbed a "locals" casino in August 2008 and has yet to be captured. Why rob a convenience store when one can simply saunter into a casino, pull out a gun, and rob the casino cage? Obviously with the rash of recent casino robberies including the Bellagio heist, it is a complete myth that casinos make any attempt to stop such nonsense.

Cranberry Caper Solved....

It looks like the Bellagio heist has been solved. It turns out it was not organized crime, but a 29 year old degenerate gambler who apparently owed the wrong people a lot of money. It sounds like this capture was a combination of good police work combined with this jackass not being able to keep his mouth shut. Personally, I think MGM Resorts and Bellagio security should be embarrassed for letting something like this happen in the first place. Here are two questions that would like to have answered:

I understand that the Bellagio takes huge action at its table games, but to have $25k chips on a regular craps table on the main casino floor seems like insanity to me. I can understand these chips in the high limit parlor, but out on the main floor? Why are these needed? Just to color up a big better?

How does a guy walk into a casino wearing a motorcycle helmet at 4:30 am and not get immediately accosted by security? The videos of this clown sauntering in and out of the Bellagio are ridiculous. The entire Bellagio security team working during this heist should be fired or at least reassigned to Circus Circus.

Personally, I think the Bellagio/MGM were screwed on these chips. Had this guy not been such a jackass I think these chips could have been circulated back into the casino -- perhaps not the full amount but certainly enough to make it all worthwhile. With Chinese New Year going on and the right contacts within Asian organized crime, these chips could have been laundered right back into the house.

I welcome any and all opinions on this heist, but your commentary will be deleted if you cannot put together a rationale and organized opinion. Agree with me or disagree with me, no problem -- just state your case in a civilized manner.

One more thing -- I love doing this when I go to the Bellagio: When on the casino floor walk up to any person that looks like a supervisor or floor person. Ask them the following:

"Excuse me, can you direct me to the craps table that got robbed for $1.5 million? I would like to take a picture of it."

Just wait to see the reaction you will get. It is so damn funny. Let's just say they are not happy with these types of questions...

Day Trip -- Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

In LV for an extended trip? Burned out and tired of the noise, the smoke, hordes of people? Gotta rental car? Take a day off and go check out Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Spring Mountain Ranch is a working cattle ranch dating back to the 1800's. It was even once owned by Howard Hughes! It has lush grass areas, pastures, lots of trees, and a very interesting ranch house with tons of history about the area. There are an abundance of trails and hiking areas if you are so inclined. It's also a great place to just relax and have a picnic. It's just a great place to decompress before heading back into the madness of the LV Strip...

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is located on Blue Diamond Road in Red Rock NCA. Either take Charleston Blvd. west or Blue Diamond west and follow the signs. You can't miss it. Cost is $7.00 to enter. Just be aware: This place will not be fun to visit during a freezing wind or the summer heat. Plan your visit and visit times wisely.

Harrah's -- Now Caesar's Entertainment has hit a new low with this attempt to lure more customers to their properties. I understand hotel marketing has to find new and creative ways to lure people in. But to encourage people to bring their dogs, come on now. I love the two dog limit and no dog can be over 50lbs. How that hell will that be enforced? Will there be a scale at check in? What about people who are scared of dogs? What about people allergic to dogs? Can you bring your dog with you and have it sit next to you while you play a machine? It's bad enough with all the children in casinos, now add dogs? Seriously... Definition of a "Tit Pit"

I have taken quite a few emails about what exactly constitutes a "tit pit." If you have any suggestions please feel free to comment and I will make changes as needed. So here we go:

"Tit Pit" = All dealers are women, most are under 30, scantily clad, wearing lingerie type outfits. Every dealer is hot. Dealers may rotate from dealing to pole dancing. Most or all blackjack games are 6/5. Planet Hollywood would be an example of a "tit pit"of the highest caliber.

"Ass Pit" = This one took some thought. An "ass pit" is not a "tit pit." An "ass pit" involves 1-2 young women (usually in their early 20's) who dance, strut, or parade back and forth on an elevated stage in front of the pit. Outfits are lingerie or leather chaps, etc. Dealers are dressed in hotel uniforms. Dealers are male and female, usually not good looking, and have sour attitudes. "Ass pits" are 6/5, shoes, or CSM's. "Ass pits" are filled with ploppies. New York-New York would be a perfect example of an "ass pit."

"Shit Pit" = A "shit pit" is the lowest of the low. The entire pit is 6/5 BJ with shoes and CSM's. Male and female dealers in hotel uniforms with scowls on their faces wait to prey on ploppies. Many dealers are overweight and waiting for their next break to go have a smoke. There are no scantily clad women, no pole dancers, and no floor show. A "shit pit" is the lowest of the low. The Mirage would be an example of a casino with a "shit pit."
