"This is the end result of all the bright lights... and the comp trips, of all the champagne... and free hotel suites,
and all the broads and all the booze. It's all been arranged just for us to get your money.
That's the truth about Las Vegas. We're the only winners. The players don't stand a chance. "

Traffic Jam: I-15 West leaving Vegas...

I drove back from Calif. on  Mon. 6/27 and saw one of the worst traffic jams exiting out of Las Vegas I have ever seen.  To my knowledge there were no accidents -- just thousands of cars all trying to leave LV at the same time.  These photos were taken around 2pm.

This traffic jam stretched from Primm to a few miles before St. Rose Pkwy. -- a distance of approx. 30 miles.  That's right -- thousands of cars in complete gridlock, idling and in stop and go traffic in a 106f heat. Apparently most of these vehicles were occupied by attendees at the "Electric Daisy Carnival" held over the past weekend.

To make the matters worse, that stupid CA "agricultural checkpoint" had a min. 5 mile back up when I drove past it in Yermo.  Combine this back up with the traffic jam leaving LV, and I would add 2-3 hours extra travel time -- not to mention traffic upon entering southern CA.  Please see previous posting on this issue: http://jimmyhoofa-lv.blogspot.com/search?q=checkpoint

Every time I see traffic like this, or I am stuck in traffic like this leaving LV, I ask myself why?  Why can't CA and Nevada, and the Federal Govt fix this clusterfuck and have some sort of a legitimate highway to move all these people in and out of southern Nevada to southern CA?

  1. Hey Jimmy,

Don't "dis" the agricultural inspections at the CA border. It's very important that authorities confiscate as much papaya, mangos, and gala apples as possible while car loads of illegal aliens, cocaine, and methamphetamine pass through these "inspection points" without a blink of the eye.

  2. I agree Jimmy. Widening the hwy between Barstow and Primm should be top priority for CA. Coming home to LA is a nightmare after any kind of holiday or long weekend. After being stuck in traffic for 7 hrs this past Memorial Day I swore from then on, I would either fly or leave LV at 7 am to avoid the jam.

  3. Yeah, I don't want to sit on top of Mt. Pious and preach about how we leave by no-later-than 8 a.m. every time we exit Las Vegas so I will offer this.

Forget about the basketball arenas, Las Vegas citizens. The biggest thing stunting the growth of Las Vegas is the 15.

People in California can't just leave at the drop of a hat to go to Las Vegas like we used to.

So the freeway needs to either be an eight-lane super highway. Or better yet, get a real train project built.

I wonder if we had a bullet train built back in the 1990s (or earlier) how the town would look today.

But come on Vegas, you need visitors, work with California to get this done.

  4. A toll booth perhaps? Stop. Pay toll during congested rush hours. Otherwise just keep grooving to the music or keep gambling or whatever and don't try to drive in traffic jams.

  5. There are 20 million+ plus people in Southern Calif. Half of these people who would like to drive to LV and have some fun!!!

At the minimum the interstate should 3 lanes with a truck by pass lane. FYI -- CA wants to move that AG station at Yermo right at the border with NV. Really?

    Clusterfuck. FUBAR

  6. This artificial traffic jam is just a strategy by NV to get people to funnel into the failed Primm shopping area.

  7. CA would rather spend $18 billion on a high speed rail line from LA to SF that is going to take 10 yrs to complete. We have some real idiots running this state.
