Frontier Hotel 1942-2007

"This is the end result of all the bright lights... and the comp trips, of all the champagne... and free hotel suites,
and all the broads and all the booze. It's all been arranged just for us to get your money.
That's the truth about Las Vegas. We're the only winners. The players don't stand a chance. "

A tour of Boulder Highway

Most tourists who visit Las Vegas don't ever get to see Boulder Highway -- which is probably a good thing.  Here are some photos with commentary.

Boulder Highway is home to the "other" Welcome to Las Vegas sign. Unlike the Welcome to Las Vegas Strip sign, it not advisable to get out of your car and take a picture in this area. In the background is the "Eastside Cannery" -- one the many gaming establishments along Boulder Highway.  It is suggested that non-smokers spend no more than 30 minutes inside the joint to avoid lung damage.

"Harry's" -- looks like it might be closed?  Maybe Boyd Gaming will renovate the place and reopen it?

Accomodations are varied on Boulder Highway.  Here's the "Sportsman's Royal Manor."  Not sure if this place copied the Excalibur or the Excalibur copied these guys.

Pancho's Bar:  It's got something for everyone.  Not sure what time the "night club" opens.

Need a place to stay?  The "Sunset Motel" has reasonable weekly rates -- $139.  Color TV is included with all rooms also.  Not sure about free WI-FI.

A couple out for a stroll on Boulder Highway.  Note the young lady is not wearing shoes -- it was 105f at the time.  Not really sure what's going on with her "outfit."  I could speculate, but I will defer...

There's a "diverse" group of businesses up and down Boulder Highway.  Parking lot is full at this place.  I wonder if they still actually rent videos or have upgraded to DVD's?

Other accomodation options along Boulder Highway.  Not sure if the rooms in front of the dumpsters are discounted.  I think the rates at this motel run from hourly, daily, and weekly.

Another local business on Boulder Highway:

As noted, gaming establishments run the length of Boulder Highway.  Smokers are always welcome at the Jokers Wild.  Non-smokers will need to wear a gas mask.  It is recommended that one burn their clothing once they get home if planning to say more than an hour inside this facility.

Note all photos in this post were taken by and are property of Jimmy Hoofa.  FYI -- all photos were taken from the comfort of my vehicle to avoid potential security and safety concerns.  JH.

  1. Eastside Cannery: So what if I have to employ a gas mask, its 100x at the craps table!

Jokers Wild: Okay, so I have to burn rather than try to launder the cigarette smoke out of my duds, that is a small price to pay for One Dollar Craps!

No, .... I do not get a discount on my room despite the dumpster out front!

  2. I wonder if any of these places charge "resort fees"??

  3. I would imagine they charge a nominal $5. That covers the 3 pack of condoms provided with each room.
